The Bridges House - A Capital Campaign For New Hampshire's Executive Residence
About How to Give Upcoming Events Donate Online

The Bridges House is New Hampshire's executive residence. A historically and architecturally significant home built in 1835, it is located in East Concord, and belongs to the citizens of New Hampshire. The house is listed on both the New Hampshire and National Register of Historic Places. While our state's first families generally have not resided at the Bridges House, it serves as the setting for many official state functions held by the Governor and is an extension of that office. Conferences are held here with legislators, civic and business leaders, and visiting dignitaries from around the nation and the world. The public is welcomed to the house for events such as holiday tree lightings, concerts and tours. Non-profit community groups also use the property for meetings and events.

Generously given to the State of New Hampshire in 1969 by former Governor and United States Senator Styles Bridges and his family, the home has served our state well, but it is in need of renovation and updating. The Friends of Bridges House, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was formed in 2005 to work to bring the Bridges House up to an appropriate standard. A comprehensive plan has been created for renovating and modernizing the house, while respecting and retaining its historic character.

  • Upgrade climate control to provide better stewardship of rare antique furnishings
  • Improve access for physically challenged visitors to comply with ADA standards
  • Renovate and update kitchen facilities
  • Renovate and enlarge the barn's "Great Room" meeting space
  • Enlarge dining room to better accommodate state and community functions
  • Upgrade safety and security systems
  • Reconfigure upstairs living quarters to make them more suitable for residents and guests
  • Implement "green" energy conservation measures throughout the structure

A restored Bridges House will provide an attractive and functional setting for non-profit and community events and an educational resource where school children and visiting adults can take tours and learn about the history of the State of New Hampshire and the Bridges House. As New Hampshire competes with other states to attract business, a rejuvenated Bridges House will provide an executive facility where our Governor can meet leaders who are considering New Hampshire as a place to expand or relocate their business.
